Our stint at the call centre only lasted a week since there was no more work for non Aussie residents, pretty much the story of our job hunt in Melbourne, so we are gonna be hitting the road again soon, first stop New Zealand in 4 weeks time, after the Australian Grand Prix.
In the mean time I have some shifts in the bottle shop and Lesley has managed to get some shifts babysitting and at our flatmates cafe. It's only washing dishes which isn't the best job in the world but on the plus side Eric Bana came in this morning so she did some star spotting!
Not all bad news , it means you guys are gonna see us a month earlier than planned, yipee and Lesley's mate Erin is coming next week to pay us a visit as part of her world tour. Will be good to see her again.
Thats all for now, we're planning doing a bit more of the 'touristy things' in the next couple of weeks so might have more to say soon!
After a month and a half of searching someone is finally decided we are in fact employable!!
I went for a job interview at a call center which turned out to be for a betting company so mentioned Kerrin. The girl said he should go along for an interview too and before we knew it we were both given jobs!! 40 hours a week and it's pretty good money so we're both pretty pleased we'll have a chance to save some money and be able to afford the rest of our trip!
In the mean time Kerrin has been doing a few shifts at a bottle shop at weekends which he's going to try and keep on as well while I've been spending my time reading and watching TV (exciting stuff being unemployed!!)

Two big things just finished, one good one bad.
First the good, the HEATWAVE is finally over 5 days of temperatures of 44 and 45 degree heat, having a house full mainly of Scots, Irish and English we really aren't designed for it. I'm not gonna miss that feeling of being inside a hairdryer when you step outside, our 35 degrees today feels pretty chilly!!!
Also the tennis finished last night, dont know how we are gonna fill our jobless hours now. We had ground passes for yesterday's final so watched it just outside the stadium like watching Wimbledon on the Hill. At the end we managed to brass neck it into the main arena and into the corporate seats and saw the speeches and trophy presentations right in front of us, not bad for having the cheapest tickets!!
has been a bit mental and surreal. Where to start? Well we are both still jobless, not for the lack of trying. It seems you need a license or experience to do any job in Melbourne, including some coffee shops wanting coffee degrees!!!!
Bumped into Jamie Stuart and Luke Myers from Montrose, in our hostel early on once we got here which was a bit of a shock, never got much of a chance to see them though before they headed off to Sydney. Sure i saw Bryony McAllister at the tennis yesterday, from the year above me at school, god its a small world!!
Our house is brilliant, really good atmosphere in it, there are 3 Irish girls Grace,Denise and Jacqui, Jess from Bristol and Spike from Canada, you'll probably here a lot more about them over the next few months, as well as plenty other folks who drop by from time to time. Plently of "goon" flowing, thats what the aussies call cheap boxes of wine, so all good. Both feeling totally at home in the house, just a good feeling around the place.
When not applying for jobs we have seen loads of the Australian Open tennis seeing Nadal twice, Djokovic, Jankovic, Murray, the Williams sisters and tons more. The best being yesterdays nadal v Verdasco 5 set marathon semi final, 5 hours of amazing tennis. in between times we have also met Serena Williams and Nadal on the practice courts and got some autographs from them and a couple of other players like James Blake and patty Schnyder and even got a photo with Oracene, Serena and Venus' mum, will get it on soon, so its easily taken our minds off nobody wanting to employ us. having a great time, lesley & kerrin x
Finally got here after the overnighter and not much kip and got straight into house hunting. After 2 days of looking round some right dives, we have got a bit of a palace, right on the beach front in the trendy suburb of St Kilda. Its jam packed with fancy restaurants, bars etc so could come in handy for a job, moving in, in a few days, can't wait!
Melbourne itself is a beautiful city, really clean and just a really nice place so reckon we are going to be happy working here for the next few months.

After a heavy night the previous night we chilled in the park all of the next day, badly needed.
We had a day out at Olympic Park and got a tour of the Olympic/ National Stadium which is massive, was brilliant we got to see everywhere, the changing rooms, press and corporate boxes and got to stand on one of the Olympic medal platforms, on gold of course!!! We seen the Aquatic centre which was incredible, but didnt have our swim stuff with us, so maybe another day. We had hoped to get down to Melbourne about now, but couldnt get anyway down so had to hang off for an extra couple of days.
We had a day at the cricket aussies against south africa, yes turning into an old man again, it was much much better than it looks on the telly, good fun and had some banter with the fielders in our wee bit.
We got a tour of the inside of the Opera house, pretty cool inside it and then headed for a swim at the Aquatic centre in the afternoon.
Our last day we climbed the Sydney harbour bridge and got the most amazing views of the opera house and the city before catching an overnight bus to Melbourne.
Told you we had been busy.
God, we did a lot in Sydney, so its getting split up into 2008 and 2009.
We had a good start to life in Sydney, with Lesley being the best finishing girl in the pool comp on the first night we were there and won us a bottle of champagne and our mate Melvin won the overall thing and a $50 bar tab, so we ended up in a fair state!
After checking out the bridge and Opera house, it was Christmas day before we knew it. Felt pretty weird, we had a nice wander round Darling Harbour in the morning then down Bondi Beach for a dance music festival and Christmas dinner, so a wee bit different to usual!
We had a day at the rcaes on Boxing, we go in free for being british (strange), really good day and about $60 profit for the day so all good. We checked out a couple of the museums of which there seems to be millins. I turned into an old man and checked out the Monet exhibition that was on, all of his famous paintings, wanted to see if a good few million quid worth of art was any good.
Hogmanay we queued for a few hoursa to get into Mrs McQuaries point to see the fireworks off the bridge, the view you get of them on the telly. we got a really good spot with a good view of most of the bridge and opera house. there was a family fireworks display at 9pm then the biggies at midnight, they were as good as they look on the telly, amazin!! Happy New year to eveyone reading this!!
